Seliverstov: Belarus, Russia press forward despite unprecedented sanctions

GOMEL, 9 December (BelTA) - Despite the unprecedented sanctions on the economies of Belarus and Russia we manage to maintain our development potential, Belarusian Finance Minister Yuri Seliverstov said as he opened the international conference on experience exchange in public finance management in Gomel, BelTA learned.

Recent years have become unprecedented in terms of sanctions pressure on the Belarusian economy, as well as on the Russian economy, Yuri Seliverstov pointed out. “These restrictions extended to the budget sector to the full extent. But even in these conditions, we manage to preserve the potential of economic development, achieve our goals, and move forward dynamically,” he emphasized.

He emphasized that there are opportunities for further development. “The main thing is to make a smart use of resources,” Yuri Seliverstov is convinced.

When speaking to journalists, he talked about the experience Belarus is ready to share with the conference participants: “Belarus does not have a lot of resources. So we are working to improve the efficiency of all expenditures, including through public finance. We are ready to share our experience in digitalizing public finances, the priorities we have chosen for ourselves.”

The minister added that the forum in Gomel is a good opportunity to see how the same issues are solved in the partner countries and draw conclusions.

The international conference on the exchange of experience in public finance management is running in Gomel on 9-10 December. The conference brought together by representatives of five countries: Belarus, Russia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan.
